NOT Science School aims at promoting natural sciences among
senior secondary school students both by offering them a chance
to work at a large professional telescope and by producing material
for wider use in astronomy teaching and public outreach efforts.
Telescope observations provide information not only in astronomy
but also in physics and mathematics, and even chemistry.
Thus there arises an interest in natural sciences, which encourages
students to find their way into studies of these fields in
universities and technical institutions. It develops also their
knowledge in the most important forces that forge our world view.
By working at the telescope and reducing the observed data
develop the students' group work skills and promote their
internationalisation and language skills. A student
participating in a science school forms an insight into what
it is like to be a researcher, what are international projects
like and what is the role of language skills in working life.
