EXACT SCIENCES SOCIETY
The Exact Sciences Society (later: ETS, from its Finnish name) is a society
founded to promote connections between practitioners and scholars of different
exact sciences in Turku area. It organizes seminars of physics, chemistry,
mathematics, and astronomy as well as trips to (mainly) local scientific sites
such as educational institutions, businesses and factories, and governmental
institutions.
ETS was founded in 1925 by professors Yrjö Väisälä, Kalle
Väisälä, and Matti Palomaa, several members of their scientific
staff in the University of Turku, and some other interested people. The ETS
has provided it's members and outsiders as well more than two hundred seminars
over all the exact sciences. There have been about twenty trips to places like
different scientific departments in the University of Turku, schools, Wallac
Oy, and Turku airport.
Members have included several professors, headmasters, teachers, assistants,
and students of exact sciences. In the beginning of the year 1996 ETS had over
150 members and operated actively organizing several seminars per annum.
